For approximately 20 years I have lived with psoriasis.  It is an autoimmune disease that causes red, itchy, scaly patches of the skin. My effected areas are the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. For the first 10 years I would have occasional episodes of the psoriasis for which my dermatologist prescribed topical steroid ointment. This seemed to eliminate the symptoms until the next flare up. Each episode got progressively worse over the years particularly on my feet. The feet were most difficult to control because walking would irritate the skin preventing healing. My dermatologist attempted a steroid injection directly into the sole of my feet but it was too painful so I opted to manage with the topical ointment and moisturizers to minimize scaling skin. My nightly ritual would include application of ointment on my hands and feet, wrapping them in plastic wrap and covering them with athletic socks to control skin that was cracked, itching and on the verge of bleeding in the morning. About 5 years ago arthritis joined the symphony of conditions in my body and it was only a matter of time until the two inflammatory conditions would cause major havoc debilitating me for several weeks. Steroids were again the only option back but this time I took an oral form. Once things settle down I resumed the earlier ointment and moisturizer routine until I was offered a sample of Nakid. I have found that it provides the perfect balance of moisturizer to my skin without having to depend on the steroid ointment.
